3-day TaKeTiNa workshop

Taking Time and Space for Rhythm

TaKeTiNa, the musical group process, encourages us to enter into wisdom which we all embody. First, we create a direct conduit to rhythm by connecting spoken syllables with basic stepping movements. As simple as it seems, repeating syllables linked to movement opens a pathway to a new kind of learning. In time, as our steps become more grounded, the next layer of complexity is added -- handclaps. Some of the claps are not on footsteps. A search begins: How to "feel" for where the clap is? Can we let go of trying to "figure it out" and to instead "let it happen"? By allowing ourselves to stay in a continous field of movement and eventually song, we allow our minds to begin to relax and the possibility for rhythm to teach us arises. Our rhythm circle, based on simultaneous awareness, opens the way for a direct experience to the fundamental understanding of space and time in music and life--and so begins to heal the stress of our everyday lives.
